KUALA LUMPUR, 8 JULY 2015 - Keeping to the spirit of Ramadan, UMW Oil & Gas Corporation Berhad (UMW-OG) once again organised a Hari Raya shopping and buka puasa dinner for children of a selected welfare organisation. This year, UMW-OG hosted children from Yayasan Chow Kit (YCK), based in Kuala Lumpur.

YCK is a 24-hour crisis and drop-in centre, providing meals, activities, therapy, case management, and educational programmes for at-risk children of Chow Kit.

Close to 50 lucky children, aged between six to 11, from YCK were treated to a Hari Raya shopping at a shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur where each child was accompanied by a staff from UMW-OG; volunteering as their foster parent for the day.

The respective foster parents were allocated a certain allowance to fulfil the children’s wish lists for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations. The regulated sum also taught the children to be thrifty and smart when shopping.

The entourage later adjourned to Crystal Crown Hotel in Petaling Jaya where they were treated to a magical clown show followed by a sumptuous buka puasa dinner.

Present at the dinner was Rohaizad Darus, President, UMW-OG, who shared, “We see this Corporate Social Responsibility programme as a two-pronged effort where not only it gives us the opportunity to give back to the community, especially the underprivileged, but it will also strengthened the camaraderie between UMW-OG staff.

“In addition to providing the children fun and joy with a Raya shopping and buka puasa, we aimed to educate the children on the importance of being thrifty. Teaching them the facts about managing cash, albeit a simple one, would equip them for adulthood. We really hope that our small gesture will bring joy to the children, especially in preparing for the upcoming Aidilfitri celebrations,” added Rohaizad.

Among those present at the event from UMW-OG were Noor Azlan Adnan, Head, Drilling; Syed Rozhan Syed Hassan, Head, Human Capital and also Maryam Salwaana Kamal, Manager, Corporate Communications.

The day ended on a high note with a presentation of duit raya to the children by Rohaizad.
