Major oil and gas players partake in ‘Sahabat Maritim’ programme

19-20 May 2016

UMW-OG recently made its present felt in the small fishing village of Kampung Merchang, Terengganu. Together with other O&G players, UMW-OG set the village abuzz in the ‘Sahabat Maritime’ programme – a joint collaboration between Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency(MMEA) and PETRONAS – which hopes to give back to the community. While the main purpose is to promote safe fishing activities in areas where oil and gas facilities are located, MMEA also hopes to educate them on the roles that the fishermen play in maintaining the sovereignty of the country’s waters.

Also joining in to lend a hand were our very own volunteers from UMW NAGA 8; Arthur Fernandes, Rig Manager, accompanied by Muhammad Muizzuddin Mazlan, Lucas Ungau, Fu Jiang Wei, and Tajuddin Ahmad. They were joined by the other O&G entities’ volunteers who took part in “gotong-royong” activities in refurbishing selected old buildings across the village such as the ‘surau’ and community hall, to name a few.
