Velesto Energy Berhad recently organised a Marine Ecosystem Awareness programme aimed at developing well-informed interest in addressing human impact to the marine ecosystem.

Held in collaboration with School of Marine and Environmental Sciences, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), the full-day programme saw Velesto Energy staff based in Kemaman and KL office, together with students from Sekolah Menengah Sains Kuala Terengganu (SESTER) experiencing hands-on activities which included a beach clean up, and also a session at UMT’s lab. Although the area of the beach clean up (Pantai Tok Jembal) was relatively small, but the amount of trash, segregated by type, accumulated in the short period of time was staggering!

Once properly disposed, the group headed back to UMT for a hands-on lab session discussing human impact on a micro level. Did you know that some of the micro beads in shower gels aren’t biodegradable and are ingested by marine life?

Following the event, the Company hopes that the participants would be able to spread their new found knowledge on the importance having a balanced human presence where ever they are.
